Cornerstone’s biggest fundraiser of the year is going virtual in 2020 - 100% Virtual, 110% Purple.

Cornerstone Housing for Women is hosting the second annual Purple Tie Gala on Saturday September 12 and it’s a virtual affair.

“Last September, the first Purple Tie Gala was a huge highlight in the life of Cornerstone Housing for Women,” says Patricia Hassard, Cornerstone’s Board Chair. “This September, the spirit lives on virtually, even during the pandemic. Buy a ticket to your own ‘at home gala’ and help support the most vulnerable women in Ottawa.”

This year’s gala fundraiser will take the form of a community “watch party.”  A special program will air on Rogers TV (Channel 22) and stream on Facebook. The one-hour show promises to be a special night of music, hope, and celebration, and most importantly, will help improve the lives of women experiencing homelessness.

Last year’s gala sold out and organizers anticipate the same response this year. Tickets are limited. Only 200 tickets are on sale for $95 and include the following:

  • A curated, gourmet hospitality basket from local businesses, hand-delivered for you to enjoy the night of the Purple Tie Gala broadcast. Generous vendors so far include Flora Hall Brewing and Camino Chocolate.
  • A "Purple Pass” a.k.a. an opportunity to win door prizes and contests leading up to the broadcast on September 12.
  •  A few surprises, too!

“It’s wonderful to see how, even during the pandemic, the community is rising to the challenge of finding ways to promote the important work of supporting vulnerable women in Ottawa,” says Martine Dore, Acting Executive Director. “I’m very excited for the event, and hope to see past and new supporters joining in this year’s creative Purple Tie Gala!”

There will be art, fashion and music. Featured music by two-time Juno Award Winners MonkeyJunk Jessica Pearson and the East Wind, fashion by Sukhoo Sukhoo Khooture and Chapeaux de Madeleine, special guests, and more!

Each ticket sold helps Cornerstone’s mission to provide emergency shelter and affordable housing for women in need in Ottawa. Specifically, Cornerstone will be asking for donations to their equipment fund that helps supply new stoves and appliances.

Ticket buyers are encouraged to make it an extra special evening and dress for the gala while they watch the broadcast with their “bubble.”

“Purple dresses, purple ties, purple hair, anything goes,” says Jessie-Lee Wallace, Cornerstone’s Resources and Development Manager and chair of the gala planning committee. “We hope everyone will wear purple and share photos of themselves during the broadcast to show their support of Cornerstone and the women in our community.”
