We are in a Healthcare Crisis.
We know that health is freedom. It’s what allows us to plan for the future, work toward our goals, and live without fear of what tomorrow might bring.
But for too many women and gender-diverse people in Ottawa, good health is out of reach. Every day, Cornerstone supports more than 300 individuals in our housing and shelter programs. Many are living with chronic illnesses, trauma, or untreated mental health challenges, and four out of five don’t have access to a primary healthcare provider.
Together, we can change this. Together, we can build better healthcare at Cornerstone!

The Crisis
We are in a healthcare emergency.
Women in our programs are facing rising loneliness, mental health crises, and preventable medical emergencies.
So far in 2025, we are experiencing:
- 672 crisis interventions in 2025 due to poor health
- 3 emergency calls every day from Cornerstone programs
- 80% of women have no healthcare access beyond emergency rooms
They truly wish this care were closer to home, which is why we are reaching out to our community to build the care they deserve.
Help us raise the required funds to bring healthcare to all our locations.
Our Vision
We are launching a $500,000 pilot project to transform healthcare access for our residents. This two-year initiative will provide daily care to over 300 women across all Cornerstone locations. This is a pilot project which we hope will encourage future funding from government healthcare agencies. In the meantime, however, we cannot wait for the system to fix itself.
In two years, we hope this project will:
- Reduce crisis interventions by 100 per year
- Ensure healthcare access in 100% of Cornerstone’s locations
- Connect 80% of clients to a healthcare provider
“The staff and nurses here take good care of me. Cornerstone has made me feel heard. When we have physical care and mental healthcare, women will do better.” – Joanne, Cornerstone resident.
“[External Support Staff] are key because they have time to dive into things that the regular support staff here don’t have time to do” – Krystal, Cornerstone resident.
