When the March Ends: Why Women’s Safety is Everyone’s Fight
September 16, 2026Homelessness in Canada.
The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities is examining homelessness in Canada as part of a new study focused on the effectiveness of federal programs and supports.
On May 4, 2026, the committee adopted a motion to undertake a study on homelessness in Canada, including a review of the federal Reaching Home program. The study will examine how federal approaches to homelessness are working and identify gaps and opportunities for improvement.
The committee’s study will consider several factors that contribute to homelessness, including:
- Housing affordability and access to housing
- The need for supportive housing
- Substance use and access to treatment and recovery services
- Available community and social supports
- The effectiveness of existing federal homelessness programs
As part of the study, the committee has committed to hearing from the Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, community organizations and other relevant stakeholders.
