Cornerstone Housing for Women’s emergency shelter has lost more than $1 million in COVID relief funding from the federal government just as the provincial government is failing to invest in our city’s most vulnerable residents.

On March 8th, 2023 for International Women’s Day more than eight organizations serving women, children, and gender-diverse people are set to come together for the first time in over three years. Its theme for this year is “Together, we can go farther”.

"They’re all relieved now that we’ve gotten closer to going home. Residents are excited to just watch a movie in their room again. To sleep in their bed. To go back to the neighbourhood that is their community" says Jordan.

“I’m sorry, we don’t have any beds at the moment.” It’s a phrase I say over and over throughout the day. I offer the caller other numbers at which to seek shelter, only to hear that those shelters are also full or they don’t feel safe going there.
